Over the past 20 years, Patrick Cowsill has written or edited for UBC Alumni Magazine, Taiwan Hospice News, Bata Publishing, Crane Publishing (文鸖), Tunghua Publishing (東華), EZ Talk Magazine, LiveABC (Biz Magazine, ABC Magazine, All+ Magazine, Live Interactive Chinese Magazine and countless textbooks), Wunan Publishing, and The Taiwan News. He has also edited and critiqued countless articles for academics and students alike. In all, publications he has worked on, and that have his name on them, are in the hundreds. Read to Succeed

Read to Succeed: Book I is the first in a series of three books I worked on a couple of years back. I wrote many of the stories as well as sections providing grammar and speaking activities. I was also the final editor. As you can tell by the title, the textbook is geared at reading. The book seems to sell better to students at the university level.

Practical English

Sometimes, we caught up in learning English simply as a means for passing an important test. That's why there are so many test-based English-learning textbooks around us. Unfortunately, once the test is over, both the English textbook and crammed information are deposited in the trash.

Down the Road from Jiufen, Jinguashi Awaits

I recently wrote this story on Jinguashi (金瓜石), near Jiufen (九份), for Culture Taiwan. It's entitled Down the Road from Jiufen, Jinguashi Awaits: http://goo.gl/hFP0K.

I did it from an historical angle, looking at the Crown Prince's Chalet and the World War Two POW (prisoner of war) camp situated in this valley.

Practical Business Correspondence

I took this shot of Practical Model Business English, which someone had chucked on the living room floor. I helped to write and edit it a couple of years back. It's actually a pretty good book, full of useful vocabulary, and typical letters and scenarios a businessperson might write or face. I've recommended it to a few companies I work for as a letter editor. The people who bought Practical Model Business English told me it has helped them.
